Actor Humphrey Bogart was born December 25, 1899, in New York City, New York, United States. He is regarded as a film legend. His performances in the 1940s movies, when it was a huge turning point for him, like Casablanca, The Big Sleep, and The Maltese Falcon is considered as terrific.

He got popular and widely recognized with these movies as well.  He had an estimated net worth of $5 million at his time.

Humphrey was born in New York to a very wealthy family. His family was descendent of the Dutch settlers. His father was a huge name in the medical industry at that time as a heart surgeon, and her mother was the artistic director of a leading fashion magazine.

From a small age, Humphrey was popular. His mother published a drawing of Bogart as a baby for a national advertisement print. Humphrey was a national baby sensation at that time.

As his parents were very wealthy, they sent Humphrey to a very prestigious school in New York named Trinity School. He was not good in studies in school.

He used to wear very ceremonial dresses to exhibit that he was from a very high class. He was not good at sports too. So Humphrey was made fun of by his all classmates.

Even though he was not good in studies, his parents sent him to Philips Academy, which was a school popular for being hard and rigorous. Humphrey didn’t last long at the school and was expelled from there.

As he was not good at anything in school, he decided to join the Army to fight in World War I. He was just 17 years old at that time. The World War, as he was just a teenage kid, was great for him. He had great experiences; he had a scar from the war which later became a hot feature of him for which fans would go crazy. He fought for his country and came back in 1919.

After World War, he started in plays. His debut play was titled Drifting where he played the role of a Japanese Waiter. Confused and young and naïve Bogart at least got the idea of where he wants to go in life.

His Hollywood career began with minor roles in movies like The Skyrocket and Nerves. In 1934 a movie titled Petrified Forest was released where he played the role of the movie’s villain named Duke Mantee.

Bogart gave his breakthrough performance in this movie; he got great reviews from the critics and the audiences. He then played more of bad boy villain roles in gangster and crime movies like Crime School, The Great O’Malley, King of the Underworld and Dead End.

He then came out of his comfort zone of playing villainous roles in movies. He was seen acting differently in movies like Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, The Caine Mutiny, Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn, and The Harder They Fall.

These movies saw his best performances throughout his movie career. These movies also proved that how versatile Mr. Bogart was.

He didn’t do any TV shows but was once did a special telecast for the live adaptation of Petrified Forest for Producer’s Showcase in NBC. He won many prestigious awards for the roles he played in movies including an Oscar.

Moving on to his personal life, Bogart married four times in his life. His first wife was Helen Menken in 1926. Helen Menken was ten years older than Bogart.

Their relationship didn’t last very long, and they ended up in divorce in less than a year of their marriage. He then married another actress named Mary Philips in 1928.

Their marriage also didn’t saw the long road, and they separated. Bogart then married another woman in 1938. The woman was named Mayo Methot.

They didn’t have any children together. They also ended up in divorce in 1945. Two weeks after getting a divorce from Mayo Methot, Bogart married again. He tied the knot with his co-star from the movie To Have and Have Not Lauren Bacall (Betty Perske).

They were believed to be happy together with each other and too much in love. They have two children together; a son named Stephen and a daughter named Leslie. Their relationship remained strong until Bogart’s death.

He died in 1957 when he just turned 57 years old. He died because of a coma. His funeral was held at All Saints Episcopal Church with Bogart’s favorite musicians and composers. The funeral saw Hollywood’s A-list stars including Katherine Hepburn, James Mason, Spencer Tracy, Bette Davis, Judy Garland, Gary Cooper, David Niven, Danny Kayne, Ronald Regan, James Cagney and other more.

Bogart stood five feet nine inch tall. His height always matched his weight. His body was average and seemed the correct weight. He had often gone shirtless for his roles in movies.

He was very handsome and had that gay – ish charm that everybody used to fell for him. Bogart was usually seen in a trench coat and a hat in his movies and movie posters.

He is remembered for rocking that trench coat and hat like no others. Fans, especially female ones were crazy about Bogart. He was, of his time, the Hollywood heartthrob and sensation.
