Most talented and renowned American singer, guitarist and songwriter Mark Fredrick Farner was born on 29th September 1948. He is best known among people as the lead singer as well as lead guitarist of Grand Funk Railroad band but afterward as contemporary Christian musician.  He was born in Flint, Michigan, United States. The year 1970’s blockbuster "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)" is the best-known composition of Farner. Next hit song, which was composed by him, is "Bad Time". During his childhood, he used to play football but when he was 15 year old there was the end of his football career due to his broken finger and bad condition of knees. Since then he started to play guitar. 

The year 1970’s blockbuster "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)" is the 1st composition made by him, which he wrote at midnight and he thought it as a poetry. But following morning he got up became fresh had his coffee and then rehearsed for sometime later on he sang it for his guys and after they heard this song they told that it is going to be hit and there prediction came true. Grand Funk never used to take any vacations but once they went to 3 years of long tour. In the year 1997 Farner released his solo album which was self-titled by him for the first time after Grand Funk firstly disbanded in the year 1976. And similarly his second self titled solo song was released in the year 1978. Farner together with Don Brewer launched a new band named Grand Funk line-up in the company of bassist Dennis Bellinger and then they recorded two albums whose title where as Grand Funk Lives and What's Funk.

Farner enjoyed and had a great success in the song known as "Isn't it Amazing" which was composed by John Beland. Because of this song Mark was able nominated for Dove Award and was able to receive 2nd position on the Contemporary Christian music charts. Shortly in the late 1990s Farner again joined back to his old band Grand Funk but after working for three years with the band he again left the band in order to continue his solo music career. Likewise in the year 1999 Lakota Sioux Elders honored Mark. When he had concert in Hankinson, North Dakota a special event of honoring Mark's contribution and his Native ancestry took place. The Cherokee Honor Society with the Cherokee Medal of Honor has also privileged Mark.
